Father’s Really Do Rock!!!

A few months ago while attending an event at Morgan State University there was a man sitting at the table beside me that was getting a lot of attention. Every so often I would look up and there would be a group of people engrossed in conversation with who I now know as Mr. Kashaun Cooper, Sr., founder and CEO of the organization Father’s Rock. I always meet so many wonderful people and learn about so many great organizations but there was something about the passion, eagerness,   faith and determination Mr. Cooper displayed that had me just as intrigued as the groups of people that were huddled around his modest information table.  The mission is simple the Father’s Rock organization is created to strengthen the presence of fatherhood in the community by recognizing and appreciating proactive and active father’s and father figures.

During this 2011 Father’s Day weekend I had the opportunity to see the Father’s Rock organization and Mr. Cooper put their mission to work and attend their “First Annual Father’s Day Celebration.” With their partner Yorkwood Elementary in Northeast Baltimore, Father’s Rock did everything their mission was created to do, STRENGTHEN, RECOGNIZE and APPRECIATE fathers in the community in a way these fathers  and father figures never had nor had I’ve never seen.  Nothing was omitted from this celebration Mr. Cooper presented fathers with awards from the Father’s Rock organization, the Baltimore City Mayor’s Office, Veteran’s Affairs Liaison Mr. Larry Nunley, J.D. presented fathers with citations, there was also great food, music, games for the family, and plenty of fellowship.  BRAVO to Father’s Rock for making an impact in OUR community.
